Early Career and EducationJames's journey began with a Navy ROTC scholarship at the University of Oklahoma, where he was also a member of the President’s Leadership Class. After earning his degree, James served as a Marine Corps captain for six years. He then embarked on a 30-year career in C-suite roles across sales, marketing, and strategy, with notable contributions to industry leaders such as Amerisource-Bergen, Aramark, IBM, and Medline. His expertise in Life Sciences and HealthTech was further enhanced by an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and advanced certifications from the Kellogg School of Management and the Wharton School.
Connection to the University of OklahomaJames has maintained a strong connection to the University of Oklahoma, serving as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board for OU’s Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering. Despite a challenging fundraising climate, BSV has raised nearly $25 million for Fund I, securing investments from high-profile partners such as the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science & Technology, Bank of America, and OGE Energy Corp. Through Fund I, BSV has invested in 16 cutting-edge startups, primarily in Life Sciences and HealthTech, and made 16 follow-on investments. Looking to the future, James is leading efforts to raise an additional $25 million for Fund I by December 31, 2024, with plans for a larger Fund II launch in 2025.
